Terms of Service
Effective date: May 1, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Hello Nexus ("we", "us"), covering the Nexus desktop app and the online services at hellonexus.com, my.hellonexus.com, and api.hellonexus.com. By using the app or the services, you agree to these terms.
We have tried to keep them short and readable. If anything is unclear, ask us at [email protected].
1. The app is free to use
We grant you a free, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Nexus app on machines you own or control. You may not resell the app or the online services, misrepresent them as your own, or remove notices of ownership or licensing.
This license covers our proprietary code. The app also bundles open source components that come with their own licenses; see section 9.
2. Hardware control carries real risk
Nexus talks directly to your hardware. It changes fan speeds, drives RGB and display devices, and in some cases writes to device firmware memory (EEPROM). This is what the app is for, and it is inherently risky:
- Misconfigured cooling can cause components to run hot.
- Device vendors do not endorse or support third-party control of their hardware.
- Writes to device memory are, on some devices, difficult or impossible to undo.
You use these features at your own risk and you are responsible for the configurations you apply. Section 7 limits our liability accordingly, to the extent your local law allows.
3. Accounts
Accounts are optional. If you create one:
- Give accurate information and keep it current. Keep your credentials to yourself; activity on your account is your responsibility.
- You must meet the minimum age in our Privacy Policy to create an account.
- Usernames and avatars are visible to everyone. Do not use names or images that are illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, or that impersonate another person, project, or brand. Usernames can be changed once every 24 hours.
- Moderation: we may rename accounts, remove avatars, or suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that we reasonably believe are abusive, at our discretion. Where practical we will tell you why.
4. Your content and public profiles
Signed-in accounts have a profile page. Unless you set your account to private, that page publicly shows your username, avatar, and the device records of machines you have signed in from, including hardware specifications. What appears there is described in the Privacy Policy; the private setting controls it.
For content you submit (avatar, username, synced profiles), you keep ownership. You grant us the license we need to store, process, and, where you have made it public, display that content in order to run the service. That license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for short-lived caches and backups.
You are responsible for what you upload. Do not upload content you do not have the right to share.
5. Acceptable use
Do not:
- Probe, overload, or disrupt the services, or abuse the APIs or the relay infrastructure (including automated scraping, flooding, or using the relay to carry traffic unrelated to Nexus).
- Circumvent rate limits, authentication, or access controls.
- Use the services to harass others or to distribute malware or unlawful content.
- Access another person's account or data without their permission.
We may throttle, suspend, or block access that violates this section to protect the service and other users.
6. Warranty disclaimer
The app and the services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not promise the app is error-free, that the services will be uninterrupted, or that the app is fit for any particular hardware configuration.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hello Nexus is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the app or the services. This includes damage to hardware resulting from fan, RGB, display, or firmware (EEPROM) control, as described in section 2.
To the extent liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the app or services in the 12 months before the claim. The app is free, so in most cases this amount is zero.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, such as liability for willful misconduct or, in some jurisdictions, gross negligence.
8. Termination
You can stop using the app at any time and can delete your account from inside the app, which hard-deletes your account data.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the online services if you violate these terms or if we discontinue a service. Sections that by their nature should survive (including 6, 7, and 10) survive termination. Termination of online access does not remove your license to run the app locally, except in cases of license violation.
9. Open source components
The Nexus app bundles open source software, including a fork of OpenRGB licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL), among other components. These components are governed by their own licenses, which take precedence over section 1 for those components. The full list of bundled components and their licenses, including where to obtain source code for GPL-licensed parts, is available on our licenses page.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Courts located in the State of California, United States have jurisdiction over disputes arising from these terms, except where the law of your country of residence gives you a mandatory right to a different forum.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will update the effective date above and announce it on hellonexus.com, and where reasonable give notice in the app. If you keep using the app or services after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you do not agree, stop using the services and, if you have one, delete your account.
