Benchmarks
The benchmark measures four parts of your machine with real workloads and gives you the raw numbers they produced, not a black-box index. A full run takes about 40 seconds and happens entirely on your PC.
Open Benchmark from the sidebar. It has a Run and a Results tab, plus Leaderboards in official builds of Nexus.
Running one
The Run tab shows the rig it is about to measure - CPU, GPU, Motherboard, RAM, Storage, and OS, read from your own hardware - and one Start benchmark button. The four workloads run in sequence:
- CPU - prime-counting throughput, single and multi-core.
- GPU - compute throughput in GFLOPS.
- RAM - memory bandwidth.
- Storage - sequential and random file I/O.
On Windows these are real open source benchmarking tools bundled with Nexus (primesieve, clpeak, STREAM, DiskSpd), invoked and parsed. On macOS and Linux, where those tools have no bundled build, Nexus runs equivalent in-process workloads instead. The two methods measure different things closely enough to be useful and not closely enough to compare, so each carries its own Scoring version and results are only ever ranked against runs of the same one.
Close what you can before starting. A busy machine measures a busy machine.
Reading the result
The Results tab leads with your Nexus Score, then one card per subsystem. Each card carries the raw measurement in its own unit (primes per second, GFLOPS, GB/s, MB/s), the points that raw value scored, and a ±% spread telling you how much the repeat trials disagreed - a wide spread means something else was competing for the machine.
The arithmetic is deliberately open: each subsystem score is its raw value against a fixed reference value for that subsystem, scaled so the reference machine scores 1000, and the Nexus Score is the geometric mean of the four. Nothing is weighted behind the scenes, and every number it was computed from is on the page. History keeps your previous runs so you can see what an upgrade or a driver change actually moved.
Leaderboards
A finished run is submitted to the public leaderboard, which reports where it landed: Faster than X% of N runs, and your rank. The board lists each entry's rank, score, hardware, OS, and date, filtered by scoring version, with your own entry marked.
Entries are anonymous unless you are signed in to a Nexus account, in which case the run is linked to yours. The leaderboard is a hosted feature: it appears in official builds of Nexus, and the local run and its results work regardless.
Note
The scoring version partitions the board, and it is bumped whenever a tool, an invocation, or a reference value changes. That is why an old run of yours can sit under a different version than a new one: the two were not measured the same way, so they are not ranked together.
