Installation & Startup Issues

Work through the section that matches what you see. Each list is ordered from the most likely fix to the least.

The installer will not run or will not finish.

  1. Check your system matches the requirements: 64-bit Windows 10 (version 2004) or newer, an Apple Silicon Mac, or a mainstream glibc x86-64 Linux distribution with systemd. ARM64 and musl-based distributions are not supported. See System Requirements.
  2. On Windows, Nexus-Setup.exe installs machine-wide and needs administrator rights; accept the single UAC prompt it shows. If no prompt appears, right-click the installer and run it as administrator.
  3. On Linux, install.sh needs sudo; run it from the extracted tarball directory.
  4. If the installer fails partway or the file looks damaged, download it again from the downloads page and re-run it. The full walkthrough is in Installing Nexus.

Your antivirus blocked or removed Nexus.

That is a false positive. Restore the file from quarantine and allow the Nexus folder; the steps for each antivirus are in Antivirus & False Positives.

Nexus is installed but does not seem to be running.

Nexus runs as a background service, with the dashboard app on top of it. Check the service first:

  1. Windows: open Services (services.msc) and find Nexus Service. Its startup type is Automatic; if it is stopped, start it. If it is missing entirely, re-run the installer.
  2. macOS: launch Nexus again from the Finder. When Start Nexus at system startup is enabled in Settings, Nexus registers a launch agent (com.hellonexus.panel.service under ~/Library/LaunchAgents) that starts it at login.
  3. Linux: run systemctl status nexus. Restart it with sudo systemctl restart nexus, and read its output with journalctl -u nexus -f. If you installed before logging in for the first time, run sudo systemctl restart nexus once so the service can adopt your login session.
  4. If the service starts and then stops again, collect the log files before retrying so the failure is captured: see Log Files & Reporting a Bug.

The service runs but the dashboard will not open.

  1. Open http://localhost:9400 in a browser on the same PC. The dashboard is served only to the machine Nexus runs on, so this works locally and nowhere else. If the dashboard loads there, the service is healthy and the problem is only the app window.
  2. On Windows, right-click the Nexus tray icon and choose Open, or launch Nexus from the Start Menu.
  3. If the browser check fails too, restart the service (see the section above) and try again.
  4. Still stuck? Reboot the PC, then grab the logs and report it: Log Files & Reporting a Bug.

Tip

https://my.hellonexus.com opens the same dashboard from the browser by connecting to Nexus on the computer you are using. If it cannot connect, make sure Nexus is running and up to date, and allow local network access if your browser asks.
