Uninstall & Clean Reinstall

Nexus uninstalls through each operating system's standard path; nothing exotic. This page also covers the difference between removing the app and removing your data, and the in-app reset that gets you a clean slate without uninstalling at all.

Windows

  1. Open Settings > Apps (or the "Uninstall Nexus" shortcut in the Nexus Start Menu group) and uninstall Nexus like any app.
  2. The uninstaller stops and removes the background service, then asks: "Keep your Nexus data?"
    • "Keep my data" (the default) removes the app but leaves your settings, profiles, and history in place, so a later reinstall picks up where you left off.
    • "Remove all data" also clears the Nexus data folder (%ProgramData%\Nexus). The dialog spells out what that erases: all settings and profiles, installed apps and widget layouts, paired devices and remote sessions, screen-time history and imported media, and logs, downloads and caches. It cannot be undone.

A clean reinstall on Windows is: uninstall, choose "Remove all data", then run the installer again.

macOS

Quit Nexus and move the app from Applications to the Trash. Two things live outside the app bundle:

  • Your settings and data: ~/Library/Application Support/Nexus
  • The start-at-login item, if you enabled it: ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.hellonexus.panel.service.plist

Delete both for a fully clean removal; leave the data folder in place if you plan to reinstall and keep your setup.

Linux

From the directory where you extracted the install tarball (the uninstall script is not copied to /opt/nexus):

./uninstall.sh

This stops and disables the systemd unit, removes /etc/systemd/system/nexus.service, deletes /opt/nexus, and removes the application menu entry and icon. The motherboard sensor module configuration under /etc/modules-load.d and /etc/modprobe.d (if it was installed) is intentionally left in place, as is any DKMS module. Your settings are not deleted by the script.

Clean reinstall without uninstalling

You do not need to uninstall to get a factory-fresh Nexus. In Settings, under "General", the "Reset to defaults" row has a "Reset Nexus" button. The app describes it as: "Erase all settings, installed apps, and widget layouts (local and on remote devices), then restart with a clean install." The confirmation lists exactly what goes: all settings and profiles, installed apps, widget layouts on this device and every paired device, paired devices and remote sessions, screen-time history, and imported media. Nexus then restarts as if freshly installed, including the welcome screen.

Warning

Both "Remove all data" and "Reset Nexus" are permanent. If you only want to hand a misbehaving area back to defaults, look for the scoped resets first (for example, per-device resets on a device's page), and export any profiles you care about from the profile menu before wiping.

Reinstalling

Installing again is identical to a first install; see Installing Nexus. If you kept your data, the new install finds it and your profiles, layouts, and paired devices return. If you removed it, Nexus starts from the welcome screen.
